PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. — Luke Donald was spotted testing a new Mizuno JPX 850 driver (9.5 degrees) on Monday at THE PLAYERS Championship. Donald, who typically uses a 10.5-degree TaylorMade SLDR, worked with three different drivers on TrackMan during the session — Mizuno's JPX 850 (Fujikura Motore Speeder Tour Spec 6.3 shaft), SLDR, and an adjustable version of TaylorMade's new SLDR S. Donald reportedly received the new Mizuno driver a couple weeks ago and has been working with it at home. The club has a bright blue crown, adjustable loft sleeve (one-degree increments), and a unique weight setup that appears to allow the center of gravity to be adjusted via a weight channel (called 'Fast Track Technology') in the middle of the sole.
Mizuno wouldn't comment on the driver's specs or technology. Mizuno has used similar adjustable weight technology in the past with the MP-630 Fast Track driver, a model that featured a moveable 16-gram weight system in the rear portion of the head that allowed the weight to be placed in a number of positions to alter shotshape tendencies. The most recent version of the technology on JPX 850 has weights that can be added or removed from the weight channel to produce a forward, mid or rearward CG.
