Yet we are 15 or so years in the future compared to back then. The guy who was the first #1 on the HD ladder, Camel, used the sync-hack to get there. 4 years later, still not fixed. I haven't had any looks at the HD networking, but in the old AoC versions every command (let it be messaging, placing a building or setting a waypoint) is also used for syncing. The game uses a counter to determine the 'turn' that your on, that is increment by every sync packet and any command you gibe in-game. What may happen here is that by spamming messages you can trick the other games into thinking that you're way ahead of them because the 'turn' you're on is so high. That said, AoC has a very high threshold before it disconnects the game.

On a network level, taunts in AoC are exactly the same as chat messages btw, so it's either HD's new network stack being weird or some other problem in the engine. They don't even 'need' to fix the exploit, the main issue is that people know that they can get away with it. Microsoft needs to hire a Moderating Team for the game or improve their security or just do something. There is simply no excuse at this point anymore. AoE2 HD regularly has around 10,000 to 14,000 peak player daily, which is around a 6,000 - 8,000 average roughly.

AoE2 HD is also selling very well on steam and is currently 37th on the global top sellers chart. I know these are not Counter Strike, DOTA or Overwatch numbers, being within the top 50 in pretty much everything within what is the top PC Gaming Platform is pretty damn good. Can Microsoft really not afford to hire like 5 or 6 or even 3 dedicated people at 15$ a hour to watch and review over online games on their best performing PC Game? I know I always give HD the benefit of the doubt, but this entire situation is just getting worse and worse all the time and something I have became tired seeing since Rajas that has been escalating. AoE2 has a very competitive community and it always has, especially since Microsoft has been pushing that scene by sponsoring tournaments. The ELO does actually mean alot for the common crowd and since they are still supporting the game and odds of another content pack coming soon being very likely, I'm afraid that they are going to lose the crowd trying to draw more people in if nothing is really done about it.
